United States Advisory Council on Human Trafficking
Annual Report 2020

The report honors the 20th anniversary of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA). It includes recommendations for the coming year and evaluations of efforts to implement recommendations made in the 2019 report by the Underserved Populations Committee and the Survivor-Informed Leadership Committee. The report also includes goals, objectives, takeaways, and recommendations from the Council's trips to Colorado and Ohio. The Council also identifies priority issues for survivors and ideas for future collaboration.

2020 Trafficking in Persons Report

This year, the TIP Report looks into the evolution of the report itself over the past 20 years. Since the passage of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) in 2000, we have faced many challenges as a global community, and the TIP Report has been produced throughout all of them. As we now launch this 20th anniversary report in the midst of the COVID-19 emergency, we are making it clear: neither terrorism nor financial crisis nor a pandemic will stop us from pursuing freedom for victims.

This 20th anniversary TIP Report is a powerful tool forged to advance the global community’s commitment to put freedom first. I am grateful to State Department officers around the world, ambassadors, and the Secretary for prioritizing the production of this report. Despite the schemes of traffickers, the reality is this: governments across the world, survivors, NGOs, faith communities, and advocates are still at work. For 20 years we have determined that we will not grow weary in our fight for freedom, and we have only just begun. Hope lies ahead.

2019 Federal Human Trafficking Report

The 2019 Federal Human Trafficking Report is an annual publication of the Human Trafficking Institute that provides comprehensive data from every federal criminal and civil human trafficking case that United States courts handle each year.

A team of seven attorneys and six law school students reviewed every human trafficking case in the federal court system in 2019. Court documents, press releases, and news sources were reviewed, and prosecutors across the country were consulted, to gather a comprehensive set of data that includes: type of trafficking case, profile of the trafficker, details about the trafficking scheme, age of the victim, and district where the case took place, among others.
